North Carolina State

North Carolina State is a public research university located in Raleigh, North Carolina. With Over 34,000 students, it is  the largest university in the Carolina’s. A brief history of what lead North Carolina State to become what it is today includes:

1887– Founded by The North Carolina General Assembly as a land-grant college as North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts and was only open to caucasian students.
1918– Changed its name to North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering.
1931– Renamed to University of North Carolina.
1947– The G.I.  Bill passes and enables thousands of veterans to enroll into college, increasing enrollment past 5,000.
1962– University changed its name to North Carolina State University.
1987– School gained 700 acres of land to develop the Centennial Campus.
